Zoey Mathers had everything going for her until one night she lost her biggest client, her job, and her reputation. Leaving her life up to fate, Zoey closed her eyes and pointed. She would serve out her career exile in the small mountain town of Moonshine Hollow where moonshine flowed as freely as a mountain stream.

Giving up the law to become a baker in Moonshine Hollow turned out to be the best thing Zoey had ever done. She was happy and enjoying life in her new small town. But Zoey should have learned the first time . . . one night can change your whole life.

After unknowingly crashing a battle between witches, Zoey accidentally becomes a witch herself. That’s all before Zoey stumbles over a murder victim and the town’s sheriff becomes involved. Now she’s trying to find a murderer, stop two old witches from playing matchmaker, and learning she’s way more than a mere accidental witch.

And that’s all before fate turns up one more sexy hunk of a twist . . .

I really needed a good read and I’m lucky I found it! Zoey’s character is relatable and I love the mystery of the men in her life. Excited for the next one to come.

  • Good, just rushed

I’ve loved Kathleen Brooks other series for a long time, so I was eager to try this one. The supernatural elements sounded fun. Zoey and her neighbors have a great introduction in the first half. But wow, the second half of this story was rushed. Everything after Zoey accepting the existence of witchcraft seems like a skeleton of a story, waiting to be fleshed out in the next revision. We spent so long getting to know the town and the people that the entire plot gets sidelined. Like, they solved a murder and prevented Armageddon in barely a week, and most of that was jump-cuts between mundane scenes that weren’t critical to the story. I will totally read more, I’m just a little disappointed and feel like these characters got short shafted.
  • Slightly inclined to

I enjoyed the read, while it was short. I do have to say the transfer from being a lawyer to becoming a witch was a little clustered but overall pretty good.
  • Disappointed

I love all the Keeneston books and was disappointed a paranormal ties into those. I love the world of Keeneston, but this was a turnoff.
  • What a fun read!

Zoey and company would make the best of friends. The touch of heat with Slade was perfect. I can’t wait to read their further adventures.

I always enjoy books by this author—however, I LOVE the Keenston books, and to have a supernatural series tie into their series is a little off putting to me (the small mention of characters and places are nice Easter eggs, but makes you know they’re in the same world). I will definitely read the rest of the trilogy
