Description

Walt investigates the death elderly Cheyenne Danny Lone Elk and runs into problems on site of a dinosaur fossil discovery—from the New York Times bestselling author of Land of Wolves

When Jen, the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever found surfaces in Sherriff Walt Longmire’s jurisdiction, it appears to be a windfall for the High Plains Dinosaur Museum—until Danny Lone Elk, the Cheyenne rancher on whose property the remains were discovered, turns up dead, floating face down in a turtle pond. With millions of dollars at stake, a number of groups step forward to claim her, including Danny’s family, the tribe, and the federal government. As Wyoming’s Acting Deputy Attorney and a cadre of FBI officers descend on the town, Walt is determined to find out who would benefit from Danny’s death, enlisting old friends Lucian Connolly and Omar Rhoades, along with Dog and best friend Henry Standing Bear, to trawl the vast Lone Elk ranch looking for answers to a sixty-five-million-year-old cold case that’s heating up fast.

I became enamored with Walt Longmire and Henry-The Cheyenne Nation through Netflix. These books are looked forward to with great anticipation. I especially enjoy the recap at the end, and the questions for discussions. The descriptive ability of the author picks me up from my home and drops me in the shadow of the sheriff. I can feel the pelting hail, the horse Bambino startling at the roar of thunder, the wetness and claustrophobia in the cave, and the feel of the dirt surrounding Jen. A book series not to be missed!!
  • Great Wyoming mystery

Truly a great author with a sense of humor. Each book can be read alone but is more enjoyed as a series.
  • Slow paced and pretty boring

There are some good books in this series... this is not one of them... boring, weak, rambling, slow, and more of the hokey visions...

As usual, Craig Johnson draws you in like a moth to a flame! Character-driven stories are the best kind and there are so many characters in this book that it did whet my appetite,so I read the book in less than two days! (I now know why one of the characters from a couple of former books was not featured ) OUTSTANDING BUT SAD STORY, Bill Muhr, Tucson, AZ
