I'll start by saying I'm a fan and have read most of WEB's books. However, he is no Woulk or Clancy. My biggest complaints are: 1) The editors of his books are terrible you will find at least 3 editorial errors in all his books and 2) I believe these great stories too frequently get cut short, they leave me as a reader wondering why I spent 100 pages rehashing the last book and wishing there was 200 more to better tell and develop the story at hand.

These books are amazing! They really get into what life was like for an enlisted Marine during WWII. As a current enlisted Marine I love reading these books, and have read the entire series several times. A must read for anyone who likes historcal fiction!

Have read many Griffin books beginning with The Lieutenants and as a retired Naval Officer, enjoyed them immensely! Concerning this work, I would describe it as ordinary/run of the mill and would not encourage its' reading--sad to say! Captain Pete
