Description

This coastal strip is the most extensive alluvial territory that Mexico has, with a length on the coast of 600 or 700 kilometres and a width that varies from 50 to 150 kilometres. The total extension is 5 to 6 million hectares.
But the great rains that fall on the region, plus the flooding of rivers from other territories that reach it, make it an agriculturally very poor territory, with great hardship use.
However, in my modest opinion, Mexico has here its best chance of solving the food problems that afflict it. This territory, if cultivated exclusively of rice, could yield a crop of 20 to 30 million tons. This is sufficient reason to attempt its use.
