What is proposed in this study is to partially empty the lakes of Nicaragua, lowering its level to sea level by opening a simple gap in the isthmus that separates the largest lake from the Pacific Ocean. With this, most of the bottom land of these lakes, whose current level is several tens of meters above the sea. They would be exposed and could be put into cultivation. The extensions of lakes and swamps that could be cultivated by this simple procedure would total about 10,000 square kilometres, one million hectares.
