Description

From USA Today Bestseller Grace Callaway 2023 ORWG Heart Award Finalist A spirited lady detective. A buttoned-up spy for the Crown. A steamy marriage of convenience that threatens to lay bare their secrets…and their hearts. When her overprotective family tries to curtail her activities, spirited and independent debutante Fiona Garrity decides marriage is her surest way to freedom. All she needs is an accommodating, and preferably not too perceptive, husband with his own hobbies so that he will not interfere with hers. Destiny puts her into the path of a reputedly staid and scholarly earl. He would be the perfect candidate…if only his grey eyes were not quite so magnetic, and his virile nearness didn’t affect her in such a stimulating manner… After the death of his first wife, Thomas Morgan, the Earl of Hawksmoor, has sworn off love. He is torn between his duty to produce an heir and his true passion: his work as an agent of the Crown. Fate gives him a solution when a dazzling debutante proposes a practical union that would allow them both to maintain private lives. She would be an impeccable choice…if only her heavenly gaze didn’t lay bare his secret needs and her delectable form didn’t tempt him to unleash his darkest desires… Fiery passion threatens the negotiated rules of Fiona and Hawk’s marriage. As desire turns into love, their secret lives collide. Will their marriage of convenience survive betrayal and danger to become a love for all time? “This writer to me is in the leagues of Johanna Lindsey, Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn and Amanda Quick.” -Amazon Reviews Grace's books feature hot historical romance, fun and feel-good happily ever afters, and exciting mystery and adventure. By the second paragraph of page one I was hooked, line and sinker!!! The story was thrilling, sexy, sensitive and thoroughly enjoyable. The book has now become my top book behind Fiona’s parents book in Regarding the Duke. Fiona and Hawk engage in arguments/disagreements just like any new couple and Grace Callaway demonstrates how they work through it. Grace displays depth of character in Fiona and Hawk, which provides certain amount of substance to the story than just another “romance book”. I do wish there wish there were more displays of how Fiona can kick some butt, however physicality is not her strong suit, its Olivia’s in Book One, Olivia and the Masked Duke. I LOVED this book and I CANNOT wait for Glory’s and Master Chen story. Who is next, perhaps Lady Charlotte herself and Devlin????

I fell in love w/ Grace’s books in the first series Mayhem in Mayfair and had not stopped reading every book save one since! Her stories keep me engaged and re reading them since their initial download. This book was awesome. I love the interconnection between books and series! Now I giddily await Glory’s story.

I really liked Fiona and Thomas. I enjoyed spending my time with them. I also like that we know their families. You don’t have to read all of Grace Callaway ‘s books to enjoy this one but, after reading this one you will probably want to start at the beginning with Thomas’ parents.

Grace Callaway has done it again. Sometimes the thing we think we don’t need is indeed what we needed all along. Fiona and the Enigmatic Earl is the latest offering from Grace Callaway. It is the third novel in the Lady Charlotte’s Society of Angels series. This novel like all the others may be read as a stand-alone. The novel started out fast paced and maintained that pace throughout. The heroine, Fiona Garrity suggests a marriage of convenience to the hero, Lord Thomas Morgan, the Earl of Hawksmoor (Hawk). She does this to get away from the watchful eyes of her parents and have the freedom to undertake investigations as a part of a secret society. The hero willing agrees as he has found himself drawn to her, and he too has his secrets as he is a spy. These two decide that this marriage of convenience will allow them the freedom to be who they are without the entanglement of love. Poor deluded souls never knew what hit them. I loved seeing how the relationship unfolded. There was beauty in seeing the main characters realize they were falling in love with each other. It was like watching a beautiful flower bloom. They tried so hard to hold on to their secrets thinking that making themselves vulnerable and revealing those secrets would damage their relationship. They found the very opposite to be true. It was in revealing those secrets and showing the vulnerabilities that their relationship became stronger and flourished. I love, love, love the heat factor in the novel. Miss Callaway’s books are always so spicy 🌶 🌶🌶 🥵 🥵 and I am here for it. This novel is no different, Fiona and Hawk heat up the bedsheets and other places 😉. What I admire is how the author is able to use the spice to add to the novel without it being crass or overshadowing the story. What would a Grace Callaway novel be without a mystery? The mystery added to the story in a variety of ways. The investigation helped the characters to explore the physical aspect of their relationship. It also ultimately allowed them to show their vulnerabilities and reveal their secrets. If you like a well written Victorian era romance novel with mystery and spice this story is for you. Miss Callaway’s writing is fantastic. I was given an ARC for an honest review of the novel.
