  • A Timely Holiday Story

Not every novelist is adept at writing short stories. Grace Callaway has proven that not only is she great at writing novels but she has mastered the art of the short story. I loved reading Steamy Winter Wishes. In many ways it felt like coming home. It was wonderful catching up with the couples and their families. It was so heartwarming seeing the bonds of family. The focus was on the Kents and their various connections through marriage. Seeing the extended family gathering was great. This was such a timely story when so many persons around the world were unable to come together with their family because of COVID-19. I have read almost everything Ms. Callaway has written. Of all the works I’ve read this one has been the most relatable. Seeing Emma trying to get everything done and running herself into a frazzle is so very familiar to many of us. The response of her family who rallied around her resonated with me. Their love for each other was apparent throughout the story. While this short story seemed relatable at the same time Ms. Callaway managed to retain that intangible magic that is such an inherent element of her writing. The wonder of the season, the wonder of HEA is present throughout the story. The passion that the various couples display has not diminished with time or marriage. Seeing the couples at different stages in their marriages and yet still so in love, I just loved it. Ambrose and Marianne are my favourite couple and after decades of marriage are deeper in love. It was fun to see the vulnerable side of Tessa, the “Duchess of Covent Garden” who in the end was granted her wish and so much more. As for the Duke of Hadleigh I love a good redemption story. While he had a past the others reached out to him. This was a timely story when so many of us around the world are having a difficult time. For me Emma’s words summed up everything, “Home was a shelter during difficult times and a celebration during triumphs. Home was everything”. This is in my top 2 favourite works that I have read by Grace Callaway. 5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟🌟🌟 Please Ms. Callaway let’s catch up on Helena and Nicholas and the others too. I want to know what they have been up to. I was provided with an ARC to provide an honest review.

A perfect ending to a horrible year! This was like a special gift we all needed. Grace’s characters are like old friends, with whom you love to hang out. Hot, sweet, and funny, this story is a lovely little peek into their lives—like getting a big, warm hug from a dear friend! Thank you, Grace!
