Description

Women in Love is a sister novel of The Rainbow. Through the life experience of the Brangwen family, the novel describes the transition process of Britain from a traditional rural society to an industrialized society, revealing the profound and huge social changes in the second half of the 19th century. The novel takes the two sisters of the Brangwen family as the main characters, describing their different emotional and love experiences. Elder sister Ursula is a gentle and beautiful middle school teacher who fell in love with the middle school inspector Birkin; Younger sister Gudrun is a well-known and talented artist who fell in love with the mine owner Gerald at first sight. The two couples understand life from different angles and paths. Ursula and Birkin went through ups and downs and combined on the basis of respecting their respective personalities and creativity. Gudrun and Gerald are the same type of characters, who have strong possessive desires and want to fully possess each other. They lack true love, so they often contradict each other. After the violent passion, Gudrun fell into love with another artist; Gerald regarded himself and the workers as tools of production. When the mine reform was completed and coal production increased, he lost his purpose in life. He wanted to fill the emptiness of his spirit with the satisfaction of lust, but Gudrun refused and therefore died.
