Can’t get enough of the suspense! This might be one of my favorite books from Piper. While I was a little bummed that the overall mystery of the storyline wasn’t completed, I know that it will be in future books and we aren’t quite done with these characters yet. This installment in the series focuses on Shutter and Catalina. They’ve really been dancing around each other for years, but when Catalina gets a call at work as a 911 operator, everything changes for them. When Shutter’s ex-girlfriend ends up murdered, and the only witness is her daughter, she makes sure to keep her daughter safe in the afterlife by naming Shutter as her father even though it’s not the case. Reluctant to keep the little girl, Shutter is somewhat forced into it by Catalina, who is determined to not only keep her out of the system but to take care of the little girl herself. While the MC hunts down who’s behind the murder, we get to know more about Shutter more than Catalina, and how his past has shaped who he is, and we see Catalina fully embrace that without hesitation. I was on the edge of my seat with the suspense in this book, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! We jump right into the thick of things with Catalina (Cat) receives a call while she’s on shift at her job as a 911 operator. Nova has calls for help after her mother “won’t wake up” and needs her Uncle Shutter to come help her. I love the relationship between Shutter and Cat. They are the best of friends and have deeper feelings that they hide from each other. Their mutual need to help Nova while she struggles with the loss of her mother brings their love for each other to the forefront of their relationship. This book balances the forming family unit, blazing romance and mystery of murder together in a thoroughly enthralling story I couldn’t put down. Piper Davenport has done it again and I’m looking forward to the next installment to the Dogs of Fire MC.
