“The Alchemist” was originally written in Portuguese by Paulo Coelho. It was titled ‘O Alquimista.’ The book was first published in 1988. It is an allegorical novel that revolves around the story of a shepherd named Santiago.
The story is about the protagonist's journey to Egypt, after having a recurring dream that tells him about finding treasure in Egypt.
When it was first published, it instantly became the international bestseller. More than seventy million copies of the book have been sold around the world in about sixty different languages.
