Description

In the fifth novel of the captivating Rhymes With Love series from New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Boyle, a young woman's hopes of a match encounter a wickedly handsome complication . . .

Lavinia Tempest has been eagerly anticipating a spectacular season. But one disastrous pile-up on the Almack's dance floor derails all her plans. Add to that, the very stunning revelations about her mother's scandalous past have become the ton's latest on dits. Lavinia's future has gone from shining bright to blackest night in one misstep.

Alaster "Tuck" Rowland admits he's partly to blame for Lavinia's disastrous debut. But it's not guilt that compels him to restore her reputation. Rather, he's placed a wager that he can make Lavinia into one of the most sought-after ladies in London. Who better than an unrepentant rake to set society astir?

Tuck's motives are hardly noble. But in teaching the lovely Lavinia how to win any man she wants, he suddenly finds himself tangled in the last place he ever imagined: in love.

Livy's story was told with a twist, showing the other side of what was happening in her twin's story. Putting all of the pieces together was both fun and romantic at heart. The humor and the antics definitely win this story over. Thank you, once again, for writing the books I love to read! ❤️

A disastrous debut in front of everyone who is anyone at Almack’s, Lavinia and her twin sister’s coming out has all the hallmarks of a future that is without prospect. But her mother’s scandal, and her own cut direct after an unfortunate fall in the ballroom that brought down the party like a house of cards, Lavinia is apparently without options. Tuck (Alaster) is also a man on the outs from society, not completely without his connections but tainted by scandal. As he had made a wager that he could make Lavinia the season’s sensation, and had a small hand in her spectacular failure at Almack’s, he’s decided to make Lavinia his project, and win the wager. Tuck must endeavor to assist and reshape Lavinia to win this wager, and keep her unaware of his true purposes. Since Lavinia is striving to be a proper young lady, to shake off the taint of her mother’s scandal, her association with Tuck, a reputed rake, is going to be more difficult than she imagined. Despite the fact that she is developing feelings for him, that she is certain are returned, his lack of thought toward his own marriage may just mean every man is second best in her mind. Secondary characters, particularly Tuck’s mother, are wonderfully presented and play an important part in both Lavinia’s rebirth and Tuck’s realignment of his own goals and desires. But, the wager hangs above them, a guillotine ready to drop, and will Lavinia understand that this was a wager made before their acquaintance… Fun, funny and completely engaging, Boyle keeps readers engaged and enjoying these two characters, so full of life and heart. More importantly, the reveal of the wager could spell disaster for this budding romance…or will it? Completely unexpected and so wonderfully clever the conclusion almost surpasses any expectations I could have had. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility
