Description

We are in darkness. We are alone.

They came from the lands of light. They came with torches, with lanterns, with the banners of the sun. The children of endless day—they came to banish the darkness.

And they came to kill.

We are the children of never-ending night. We are the dwellers of shadow. In the light of our enemy, we are dying.

We were born in darkness. We must cast out the light. This is our story.

I will never stop reading this series. I hold so many characters dear to my heart. I felt as though I was beside each of them as they fought for darkness, fought despite the disadvantages. When I finish this series, I will start reading it again from the beginning, in hopes that I will never forget a single moment.

I'm really trying to slog through this one. I enjoyed the first book even with its uneven pacing. There was something that was bothering me about the writing and in book two I think I figured out what it was; there is WAY too much purple prose. The unending descriptions of the battle scenes or the aftermath of a battle- the descriptions are so over the top and overly dramatic it is cringeworthy. The characters are good although they were more interesting and relatable in book one. Here they seem to just be stumbling from one horrible event to the next with no real plot or plan, just a lot of violence. There was a great start with a child emperor and a dragon, but haven't heard from them since. I'll finish it, but not buy another in this series.
