Description

This "heart-thumping backwoods adventure" (New York Times Book Review) from bestselling author Michael Koryta will soon be a major motion picture starring Angelina Jolie and Nicholas Hoult.

When fourteen-year-old Jace Wilson witnesses a brutal murder, he's plunged into a new life, issued a false identity and hidden in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. The plan is to get Jace off the grid while police find the two killers.

The result is the start of a nightmare. The killers, known as the Blackwell Brothers, are slaughtering anyone who gets in their way in a methodical quest to reach him. Now all that remains between them and the boy are Ethan and Allison Serbin, who run the wilderness survival program; Hannah Faber, who occupies a lonely fire lookout tower; and endless miles of desolate Montana mountains. The clock is ticking, the mountains are burning, and those who wish Jace Wilson dead are no longer far behind.

"Outstanding in every way...Don't you dare miss it." --Lee Child

A thriller in every sense of that definition—informative action-driven suspense. The movie does not spoil this book and I guarantee you’ll enjoy the novel much more.

Generally I take reviews with a grain of salt and make up my own mind. I head into most movies purely looking to be entertained and particularly for a movie like this I can’t imagine expecting it to be anything more than a bit of action with maybe a thriller twist thrown in. The reviews I read before watching this one in this case were glowing, however. I can’t say I come close to agreeing. The movie title begins the overreach; it teased far more thrill and drama than the movie actually offered. There was so much potential but the story felt rushed and I found it underdeveloped. I don’t get the glowing reviews that this movie “changed the game”. There’s nothing new about this and it certainly didn’t offer up any surprises. At best it’s a 3/5 for me. Really disappointed with the potential this cast had.

This is my favorite book of his. Fast paced, tons of action. Emotional. Read it all in one sitting. Wish he wrote more like this. Movie trailer doesn’t look like it will be as good as the book. I’d suggest reading this first!
  • Outstanding and Intense!

I haven't read a book in a long time so I just took a shot in the dark at this one. I'm glad I did! I will be reading more of kyortas books.
