Re-read the original book RIGHT AFTER reading this book!
The original book suddenly became much richer and more enticing after I finished this Behind the Story, I HAD to open up the original book once more!
What a way to increase the reading experience!

“What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”
Even though Michael wouldn’t label himself as a baseball fanatic, it was hard for him to ignore what was right in front of him. As a California resident, the Oakland A’s were always in his peripheral vision. Ever the financial-minded individual, it was no surprise that an issue related to money drew him in. Jose Canseco’s mega-million dollar deal to play right field was intriguing to Michael, more so was the fact that the left fielder was getting paid mere pennies! Michael set off to write a piece about the discrepancies in the Oakland A’s payroll. However, the research revealed evidence of a much larger issue. He may have set off to catch a fish, but he landed a whale.
Why was the left fielder getting paid such a laughable salary? Because the Oakland A’s were poor—dirt poor. As General Manager of the Oakland A’s, Billy Beane was responsible for assembling a professional baseball team on a teeny-tiny budget. One can only assume what went on inside Michael’s head when he learned about the A’s situation. Considering the ferocity with which he tackled projects in the past, he probably relentlessly pursued the idea…
