I love these books I’ve read them all 3 times each! I loved this one because it felt like Jean Claude was returning as Anita’s number one lover. Jean Claude was the master of her heart and the whole clan again in this book. He had started to be second fiddle to the leopard king and Nicky and I didn’t like that feeling at all. Love all the polyamorous group but Anita and Jean Claude are first place together

Slay hearkens back to the original Anita Blake books (#1-10 or so) while staying grounded in Anita’s current sensibilities, commitments and personal growth. Her family situation was so REAL! I could feel the pain, betrayal and shared historical issues that characterize EVERY family. It was nice to see Anita interact outside of the bedroom. I appreciated seeing her relationships with her poly group without the sex. The BIG BAD was well drawn and there was enough on the line to make it interesting. Anita seemed especially “cowed”/timid in this one. But it allowed us to see how much her connections have helped her to be less introspective and more engaged in the world. I was hoping for the wedding but it gives me something to look forward to with the next book. And I am intrigued to see how Jean Claude uses his new power and how it changes his relationship with those around him. One of the better Anita Blake novels. Thanks Laurell.

Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding story. When Anita's family comes to town, Anita just wants to know if her father is walking her down the aisle or not, but Anita can't believe her father brought his mother with them. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read Anita Black story. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the phenomenal author, Laurell K. Hamilton! Can't wait for the wedding!

I usually love all the Anita Blake books but the last 2 are a joke!!! It’s like reading a book that’s only 1 chapter!!!! Except now you can pay the inflated prices for each one. I thought smolder was a fluke. Just a novelette. But it seems to be a tread. Well this is the last Anita Blake book I’ll ever read again!!!! All she did was have an internal monologue about all her lovers!!! Talk, Talk, Talk…… it started at the airport & they met her family….than it ended!!!! No wedding, no action …NO NOTHING !!!! I’ve read previews that had more of a story than this book.

It’s one of the best Anita Blake stories I’ve read in a bit. Not that Laurell Hamilton’s books are bad but this one’s like some of her beginning books. You have a Big scary monster, you have major crises and on top of that you have Anita’s family there for a visit to see if they are going to come to the wedding. This book also brings back old loves in the picture hopefully to stay. And Anita and Jean Claude find they have traitors in their house. I have all the Anita Blake books so I’m up to date on the magic and mayhem. But if a person just started reading this series they will be confused big time.. Take my advice buy the beginning books, they are worth starting from the beginning. I’ve been a fan and been buying L.H.’s books for over 22 years. Paperback and e books with 2 auto so far.

I’m missing the way the earlier books were written. It took entirely too long to meet her family at the airport and make it to dinner. It was all monotonous and I found myself skipping paragraphs just to get to better reading. I liked when Anita held herself to a professional standard when she was working with or around police. No cuddling, no kissing (EVERYONE) no PDA’s. All the emotional back and forth with every single person that walks in the room feels like a copy/paste insert new name here to fill the pages. She is more needy than Asher and Richard (at his worst) combined, at this point. I don’t even understand how Edward can stand the public displays of everyone rubbing up against each other and still be able to hunt with her. Don’t get me wrong I like the sex. But all of it in public takes away from Anita’s credibility as a Marshal. She can’t stay focused or be beneficial for any amount of time. The kicker for me was her holding hands and kissing Rafael during an active firefight. THAT IS NOT ANITA! Even when she was human strong she never stood back. Then there was the Wicked Truth, that healing should have been an amazing sex scene their injuries were a significant portion of the small amount of action in this book and their healing was an afterthought at the end of the book to wrap it up. Major let down there. The cut out sex scene with Nicky could have stayed if you didn’t have to read about every redundant emotional thought or connection to every character on each page. Do you really think Anita would’ve let her zealot grandmother walk freely in her house, while Jean-Claude was vulnerable and out for the day? The family visit was left lacking, the situation with the triplets was left open with important dangling bits of the story left untouched. I have read the entire series of books twice, I LOVE them. The last 2 books have left me empty and unsatisfied. I hope we don’t have to wait a year for another one like this.

This book is a continuation of the series that shows how Anita is changing just as Edward has changed. Meeting Anita’s family and how Anita views her family dynamics through the eyes of an adult is a very enlightened moment and shows her how they influenced her past and present in ways she didn’t expect. Good read overall.

I love this 30th anniversary release of the Anita Blake series. The Introduction of this book, our author revealed this books is especially meaningful to fans of this series and the 1st book “Guilty Pleasures”. Answers are discovered by Anita regarding the devleopment of her powers over time. We are taken on another exciting adventure with our US Marshal of the Preternatural Division as she fights eleminate an ancient threat to her, Jean Claude and their power base. Yet, for me, the focus of this book was Anita’s self discoveries and understanding of her own origin and development. Her learned ability to overcome fear, doubt, to embrace and accept the bonds of love and community which transcends outside forces. I actually had chill bumps at varioius times of this read. Thank you, Laurell for a great read and powerful addition to this series. I will reread it soon to fully absorb all the nuances of the various character’s development. An discovery we all work to achieve throughout our life span: “Know Thyself”. Looking forward to release #31. Thank you for all of the rich characters (in all your works) that provide us with a wonderful reflection of humanity and all we strive to achieve. Your work is much loved by many, many fans worldwide.

Writing was better in this book. Still a lot of recovering what the reader already knows but not as much. More story and less sex. Still a lot of characters but focused on less. All and all much better than the last couple books.

I liked this better then her last book…but it was not up to the same level of her earlier books
