First published in 1812 this novel was written by a Swiss pastor to teach his children about family values, self reliance etc. The plot is about a family who are shipwrecked on a tropical island after being deserted by the crew who took the lifeboat. The story looks at how the family pull together to survive, also made into a film by Disney.
