Description

The narrator speaks briefly in the first person at the beginnings of Part I and Part II but then quickly moves into a third-person account of the pilgrims in which their stories are told objectively, as an outside observer would perceive their actions. Once in a while the narrator becomes omniscient and explains the emotional states of the characters.

A very good book, a little bit of a hard read but well worth the effort. A wonderful portrayal of one's journey from nature to grace and then to Heaven.

There are many editions of Bunyan's work, so I'll address only this particular vehicle for this work. This edition is bare-bones, so you get nothing but Bunyan's own words. ToC is minimal & marginal, including only intro, "story" and conclusion. None of the story parts (chapters) are ID'd -- grrr -- so good luck when iBooks loses your place in the story! Also, this edition omits the 2nd book of this pair, where Christian returns home to bring his wife & sons beyond the wicket gate. You get what you pay for, so this is not a bad deal. On the other hand, there are better deals to be had.

This story is timeless...amazingly applicable today. The old English is a bit of a struggle at times, but gets easier as you read along. What an adventure!?

A magnificent intercourse of the physical reality of spiritual existence. A must read for all humans whether they accept/reject dreams, mysteries, and hard cold realities. This classic is second to only one and provides a wonderful foundation for profitable debate.

The pantheon of Christian works undoubtedly includes Pilgrim's Progress. Considering the depth of impact that it had on several centuries of believers, it also ranks as one of the more influential allegories ever crafted.

The True Believer will be strengthened and encouraged to go on. The Wandering Sinner will be transformed. And the Lost will have done precisely what their name infers.
