Description

A must for Elvis fans and anyone interested in 50s, 60s, and 70s Hawai‘i. This revealing portrait offers new perspectives on the life and career of a legendary performer. Over 100 photos --many previously unpublished-- complement the text. Hopkins not only chronicles Elvis’s time in Hawai‘i and the three movies he made in Hawai‘i, but the lasting effect Presley has had on Hawai‘i -- and the effect Hawai‘i had on Presley. Everyone who knew him says there were only two places Elvis felt at home --Memphis and Hawai‘i. Jerry Hopkins, a twenty-year veteran of Rolling Stone magazine, is the author of three other books about Elvis Presley: Elvis: A Biography (1971) and Elvis: The Final Years (1980); both international bestsellers long out of print and to be republished in an updated form in 2007 and Elvis in Hawai‘i (2004). His research material for those is part of the Mississippi Valley Collection at the University of Memphis in Tennessee. Hopkins also wrote biographies of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Raquel Welch, and Yoko Ono. A resident of Hawai‘i from 1976-1993, he now lives in Thailand.
