Description

Heir to the clan MacFarlane, Ailis was a prize to be bartered by her calculating father, and her wedding to a man she despised seemed inevitable--until she is abducted by her clan's worst enemy, Alexander MaDubh, a brutally handsome laird with ice in his eyes and hot blood in his veins.

Alexander had come riding into Leargan to claim the three children born of a forbidden love between his brother and lovely Ailis' sister. Now, with Ailis herself as his pawn, he can strike at the enemy whose treachery robbed his clan of so much. Her beauty and her fierce temper stir his blood, and vengeance has never been so sinfully sweet. But will a passion they cannot deny be enough to ease the pain and torment of the past?

  • Just so-so

I did not care for this book. I found the main characters to be inconsistent and not really believable. Although I do enjoy a strong alpha male protagonist, Alexander crossed the line into abusive behavior. The first day he meets the heroine he slaps her in the face and rapes her......then the reader is asked to believe that she is inexplicably drawn to him??? Sorry, but it was just too much of a leap for me. For a better Scottish romance, try the Highland Guard series by Monica McCarty....the characters have much more depth and the plots are certainly more plausible.

This book definitely drew me in from the moment I turned the first page and I wish there will be a sequel. It was lovely and intoxicating to read the relationship of Ailis and Alexander grow. This book is one of the rare stories that have actually made me laugh out loud! It is a story that you won't want to put down until it's over and even then, you will wish it would keep going.
