Description

The era of the Old Republic is a dark and dangerous time, as Jedi Knights valiantly battle the Sith Lords and their ruthless armies. But the Sith have disturbing plans—and none more so than the fulfillment of Darth Scabrous’s fanatical dream, which is about to become nightmarish reality.

Unlike those other Jedi sidelined to the Agricultural Corps—young Jedi whose abilities have not proved up to snuff—Hestizo Trace possesses one extraordinary Force talent: a gift with plants. Suddenly her quiet existence among greenhouse and garden specimens is violently destroyed by the arrival of an emissary from Darth Scabrous. For the rare black orchid that she has nurtured and bonded with is the final ingredient in an ancient Sith formula that promises to grant Darth Scabrous his greatest desire.

But at the heart of the formula is a never-before-seen virus that’s worse than fatal—it doesn’t just kill, it transforms. Now the rotting, ravenous dead are rising, driven by a bloodthirsty hunger for all things living—and commanded by a Sith Master with an insatiable lust for power and the ultimate prize: immortality . . . no matter the cost.

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

I love any story about the sith and this one is pretty much perfect. I'd also like to point out that the author also writes a bunch of other books not related to Star Wars that are creepy and I think it's really cool that he was able to use his talent so well in this book he wrote. I can't wait to read death troopers. I'm trying to read all the books in order, wish me luck!

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and I love zombies for sure. Let's have some background here. I've been reading Star Wars books since before I can remember. I was really into the 'Galaxy Of Fear' series, which brought fear into my heart like Death Troopers did. Red Harvest is a zombie book with lightsabers and the force, taking place in the Galaxy of Star Wars without really making it seem like it's IN the Galaxy of Star Wars. All it really is is a horror book with Jedi and Sith. I understand that The Old Republic era books are harder to write because there are no movies to base it off of, but come on. This is slightly rediculous. It had a weak plot line (Jedi Agricultural Corps? Really?). It's other major flaw is character development. I didn't feel the tension when Jura Ostrogoth died like I did when Kale was bitten by his dead old dad. It felt rushed, so I honestly didn't get into it. It had it's strong points, too. I liked the description of graphic blood and gore that left me gagging and imagining a Zabrak with a bite mark on his arm left by a head of Jura the zombie. Over-all, the book is engaging and slightly under-developed. I give a 3/5 for weak plot and crappy character development. I would NOT recommend this book over Death Troopers.

I have to say all together this novel was spectacular. The writing was done so well the immersion into the story didn't stop. I had a horrid time trying to put this book down. With that being said yes it wasn't the classic star wars story but the familiarity with a universe and characters I grew up fondly day dreaming about made this book go above and beyond what I was expecting. It gave a world I knew and loved a entirely new take with a horror setting. Something I would shrug off before like a sith lord thinking they weren't much to fear and the Jedi was the ultimate weapon.. After reading this book it brought a some fear into my mind and a entirely new outlook on the Jedi's rival... And then the zombies!! This is a must read book for any star wars fan.
