Poor writing, poor character development, plot development is slow without payoff at the end - there’s a reason this book has been shunned out of the 40K fan base. It’s a meme

Pricing is too high. These books used to be $7.99. More than doubling price is simply greedy, Especially since these books aren't printed editions and that cost isn't involved. Bs

I have read all the first eight novels, including, BATTLE FOR THE ABYSS. I throughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well written, and I was entertained, when the four legions came together for a cause. Ben Counter writes an excellent book. If you enjoyed, GALAXY IN FLAMES, you will like this. A side story to the Horus Hersey, but worth the read.

This was one of the few in the series that dissappointed me. Don't get me wrong, it's 40k, so I liked it to some degree, but it was no Know No Fear, or Fulgrim, or First Heretic. If you want a fantastic HH novel, go read one of the ones I named, or A Thousand Sons, which is quite possibly the best imo.

No question - the worst book in the Horus Heresy series, and one of the worst books the Black Library has ever published (that's really saying something). Terrible plot, pacing, characterization, action... Did I forget anything? If I wasn't such a completionist with the HH novels I would have tossed it in the trash. You can actually completely skip this book without missing anything in the series, in fact I recommend you do so.
