Description

“A fresh voice that stands out….Delicious and delightful!”
—Karen Hawkins
Romance superstar Amanda Quick calls Julie Anne Long, “a fantastic writer,” and says, “her writing glows.” Suzanne Enoch calls Long’s work, “warm, witty, and fabulous!” This rapidly rising star of historical romance dazzles once again with What I Did For a Duke—the next fabulous installment in her sensual and emotionally charged Pennyroyal Green series. This Regency delight focuses on a dark duke with a sinful reputation and his determined efforts to seduce and ruin the innocent sister of his enemy—only to fall victim himself to the gentle lady’s good nature and passionate soul. What I Did For a Duke follows Long’s delightful I Kissed an Earl, continuing the colorful feud between the Eversea and Redmond families, and it’s one of the most scandalously entertaining love stories in many a season.

I never give historical romance more than 4 stars because I am pretentious. But! I have done it now! This book was spectacular. I don’t even know if I can correctly put my feelings into words. It was so well-written. The dialogue was always witty and interesting. Both the heroine and hero were awesome and had distinct and believable personalities. The ending! Ugh. All of it was so good, but the ending actually got to me a little bit. I read historical romance for the fun of it, but if I can get some feels in the meantime then woohoo. This book rocked my world because it hit all the things I’m looking for in a historical romance and MORE. I don’t know, maybe i am just having an emotional week? Being a woman and all, but I highly doubt it. This book has SUBSTANCE. It is so much more than your formulaic historical romances. 👌

I liked this book a lot, however the 20 year age difference was a bit offputing. Overall a good story.
  • Slow to start but oh so good after that.

I almost put this down after a few pages but I'm so glad I didn't. Ms. Long has a tendency to use several "big" words that leave the reader scratching their heads wondering what they mean. Now I'm known as the "walking dictionary" in my family, I have a large vocabulary but I admit there were words even I had never head of. Perhaps she could back it down just a touch. Other than that the story was delightful, I laughed heartily several times with pure joy. Ms. Long's humor was witty and clever. I loved her characters, they had real depth and emotion to them. I loved how the author refused to bow to convention and instead made constant plot turns so I was kept on edge until the end. Just when you thought you had the story figured out she would change things up, but kept each character likable. This book was funny, charming and touching. I highly recommend it.

No sparkle or witty dialogue. I have to admit to not even finishing. It was very easy to put down and not pick back up. The author's other books are better.

I found this book during a sleepless night (after midnight, ironically). I could not put it down until I finished it seven hours later. Usually, I skim through dull parts of longer novels, but I could not skim a word of this one. This is easily one of the top romance novels I have ever read and I read over ten romance novels every month. I laughed, I cried, and most of all, I cared about all of the characters. I literally highlighted nearly every line due to the stunning metaphor laced through the text. I will be reading more from this author!
