Description

Daniel Suarez’s New York Times bestselling debut high-tech thriller is “so frightening even the government has taken note” (Entertainment Weekly).

Daemons: computer programs that silently run in the background, waiting for a specific event or time to execute. They power almost every service. They make our networked world possible. But they also make it vulnerable...

When the obituary of legendary computer game architect Matthew Sobol appears online, a previously dormant daemon activates, initiating a chain of events that begins to unravel our interconnected world. This daemon reads news headlines, recruits human followers, and orders assassinations. With Sobol’s secrets buried with him, and as new layers of his daemon are unleashed, it’s up to Detective Peter Sebeck to stop a self-replicating virtual killer before it achieves its ultimate purpose—one that goes far beyond anything Sebeck could have imagined...

I’m a sci-fi junkie. This is my favorite novel. Creative use of tech, spooky predictive elements (although perhaps outdated now), excellent character development, brilliant human + tech evolution.

So tired of Apple putting out re-releases under the guise of new releases. They MUST clearly supply the original as well as the new.

I read that this is his first book. I can't believe that. This book is so good, so real, so well written, that he must have Sobol's help. Even if you don't understand all the computer language, it's fantastic.

A good fast read that technology, game buffs, and law enforcement (yes, the PoPo) will enjoy. Tells a story of just how interconnected and vulnerable finance, industry, and government really are when faced with a powerful megalomaniacal adversary. Good book... you will enjoy it!
  • I have re-read this book at least 5 times by now.

Think Google Glass is cool? Wait until you dive into this well written tale of the near future. A gripping story line where you realize just how much technology is around you and the potential for abuse and/or societal change.
