Description

At Westminster Christian Academy, our goal is to provide a distinctively Christian education and ensure college and career readiness for students in the St. Louis area. We are committed to providing a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students. In order to eliminate inconsistencies that can confuse students and delay their mastery of writing skills, this guidebook defines common language and outlines common practices that every teacher at WCA should use when assigning written work. While not every teacher instructs students in the finer points of writing, all teachers should strive to promote literacy in their respective disciplines, helping students to become competent communicators. All students must become proficient writers, but for all students to become proficient writers, all teachers must be writing teachers, teachers who teach and reinforce the same standards across the curriculum. Accordingly, teachers who assign writing must also assess writing for content, clarity, and coherence. Essentials of Writing Across the Curriculum is a basic how-to guide for proper formatting, structuring, documenting, and citing according to the Modern Language Association. It is our hope that this guidebook will provide the essentials necessary for teaching writing across the curriculum. By working together to teach and uphold these basic standards, teachers can help ensure that all students will become competent writers and communicators who are prepared for college, careers, and citizenship.
