First published between 1936-38, the present volume 'Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States From Interviews with Former Slaves: Volume I, Alabama Narratives' is a compilation of numerous real slave narratives undertaken by the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration.
