In the new Eve Dallas police thriller from #1 New York Times-bestselling author J. D. Robb, what looked like a lover’s quarrel turned fatal has larger—and more terrifying—motives behind it…

The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body—but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

As Eve and her team look into Gwen, her past, and the people around her, they find that the lies are about more than murder. As with sculpture, they need to chip away at the layers of deception to find the shape within—and soon they’re getting the FBI involved in a case that involves a sinister, fanatical group and a stunning criminal conspiracy.

Good Book, ~ sigh. I really really wish it had been longer. Would have loved more details. Lead up and take down. Much as i love all the In Death books and I’ve read every single one of them, I always long for the next one to have more depth, more characters, just more. I read this one in an afternoon. For the price of Books that’s just not enough.

I hate reading the Dallas/Roarke books because I break my rule of only reading at bed time because I never want to put the book down I always figure the next book won’t be as good as the last so it will be ok and I am always wrong they are all very well written and entertaining books a series I never miss
  • Not up to her usual standards

I generally love the JD Robb books; however I am disappointed in this one. I found the story formulaic; predictable; and will develop characters in other books are very shallow in this book. Particularly offputting was a notable change in the syntax used in Roarke’s dialogue.I almost got the feeling that someone else wrote his dialogue.

This one sucked me in and didn’t let go. I was totally guessing (and I was wrong) until it was revealed. What an amazing story.
