  • Not for me

Ugh! I hate it when an author I love has a book that I just can't get into. This is that situation for me. Usually with a Jackie Ashenden book I am totally absorbed into the story. Even when I dislike the characters the story usually keeps my focus. With this one I not only disliked the hero, billionaire Lorenzo De Santis, immensely but the story lacked that wow factor and I found my mind drifting at times. Kira Constantin is his poor intern that has been forced on him and he lets her know how much he doesn't want her around. Yet he does. For his pleasure. Secretly she has her own agenda so I guess these two really deserve each other. The book didn't really work for me but as with all Ms. Ashenden's books the writing is excellent and the characters are well done and bring out your emotions.

I will say, the one thing the author did very right was the bossy sex scenes. The way Lorenzo commanded Kira was pretty hot! Overall, this was a good, short read. Lorenzo is an angry Hero and he owned it. The only thing I didn't like about him was his constant thoughts of his dead ex. It was a bit too much in the story. I have mixed feelings on Kira. She owned her mistakes and was truly working at being a better person but the ADHD personality wasn't easy to relate too. I liked her but a few scenes were OTT. Next up is Rafael. THE BILLIONAIRE’S INTERN provided a quick, easy, entertaining read with lots of raw emotions and down and dirty angry sex between two highly emotionally damaged individuals. The premise was there but overall, this book wasn’t for me. I did not like Lorenzo at all and although I did slightly understand Kira, she was so desperate for approval their interaction screamed abuse/taking advantage. Lorenzo tried to deal with his anger by aggressively dominating and controlling everything around him. Lorenzo pretty much hates everything Kira was known to be. While Kira is begging for someone to happy with her as a human being. The connection between Kira and Lorenzo was superficial and unjustified and in the end it lacked DEPTH. To make this better it would of had to have a lot less internal, repetitive dialog and more subsistence creating a character connection. 2.5 stars If you are looking for straight steam then this book is for you. I received this ARC copy of The Billionaire's Intern from St. Martin's Press - Swerve. This is my honest and voluntary review.
