Description

The truth can set you free.

Jaymee Ballard trusted only one person with the secret of her lost daughter. Now that person is dead—murdered, just like another woman in town. Jaymee is convinced her past and the secrets she has fought for so long to hide have come back to haunt her. And in a small town, unburied secrets can be deadly.

The truth can also get you killed.

Too many years of abuse leaves Jaymee unwilling to trust, but now she must ask for help from friends: One man who has ties to the murders, and another who wants to claim her heart. With the killer ready to strike again, they are running out of time. Can they find Jaymee’s daughter before it’s too late? Or will the awful secrets of Jaymee’s past destroy any chance of happiness?

A really good, complicated read. About a girl who got pregnant at 17 and is forced to give up her baby for adoption. There is mystery surrounding this adoption and what really happened to her child. Murders start happening in her sleepy town that are related to the adoption cover up. Layers upon layers of storylines help keep this tale interesting. I never saw the killer coming. And the climax is really drawn out and not just over in a matter of pages. I thought the writing was really well done. Would recommend for fans of thriller books.

As a n adult who grew with a man very much like Paul Ballard I was able to relate to the character of Jaymee so much. The true torment that comes from two siblings trying to escape their past trauma is very accurately portrayed by the author. I highly recommend this book!

This is a fascinating book, well written you can feel the oppressive heat and humidity in Mississippi’s summer heat. I really enjoyed reading it . Now to read the other books in this trilogy!
