Description

Boone Rivers uses his fame and fortune as a professional hockey player to his advantage, but not in the way most people would think. Volunteering as often as his busy schedule will allow, Boone meets one brave young boy who turns his world upside down. As a first-line right winger for the Pittsburgh Titans, I thrive on the thrill of the game. I live for the smell of the ice, the cheer of the crowd and the way my heart pounds whenever I step into the arena. But once I’m out of my skates, my focus is on giving back to the city of Pittsburgh. It’s funny how life puts people in your path. I meet Aiden while visiting the children’s hospital and I’m struck by the strength and resilience of this 12-year-old kid fighting for his life. As my visits continue, we bond over video games and hockey until one day Aiden’s older sister walks into his room and I realize there might be a bigger purpose here. Lilly Hoffman has the weight of the world resting on her slight shoulders. Aiden’s illness isn’t getting better, she’s at risk of losing her job and their father is looking for the answers to his prayers at the bottom of a liquor bottle. I find myself wanting to lessen Lilly’s burden and what starts as a simple act of friendship turns into so much more. As we grow closer, I can’t help but fall for this fiercely protective and independent woman with a tender heart and bruised but not yet broken spirit. As we face a future of never-ending uncertainty, I vow to be Lilly’s source of strength and comfort. Lilly and Aiden have reaffirmed to me the importance of giving and receiving love unconditionally, even in the darkest of times. And no matter what happens next, no one can take that from us. Boone contains subject matter that may be sensitive to some readers. If you would like additional details, please visit the book page for Boone on my website.

I really like Sawyer Bennett. I have read all her books. This one was slow going and anti-climactic.
  • Big no if you only want happy endings

I love this author and I have read almost every book she has put out, but this one was a big no for me. Not trying to put spoilers out, but I read to cheer myself up or read something exciting. If I want something with a sad ending I would watch the news. I don’t mind sad parts of a book as long as it ends happy. I ended this in tears. I had to immediately go read another book I’d read before by another author with a happy ending just to get out of my sad state of mind. In conclusion, love this author, but won’t read this again, and don’t recommend it to others.

Oh my gosh!! From the middle of chapter 2 I knew this was going to be hitting me in the heart. So good. I’ve cried so much during this book. But it’s so worth it. Highly recommend!!! Would give it more than 5 stars if possible

Ooooooo Emmmmm Geeeeee….Just when I think I have read everything that would take my heart, soul and breath from my body Sawyer Bennett proves that she clearly is the mistress of said heart, soul and breath. Boone is going to make your heart sing as he and Lilly fall in love, your soul is going to weather the storm of things beyond Lilly and Boone’s control and leave you gasping for breath in a bawl fest. Boone and Lilly have now gone to the top of my favorite couples with the grace that they handled it all!!!
  • Loving the Pittsburgh Titans!

Loving the Pittsburgh Titans! I love that as we continue to get books in this series, that we start seeing a turn in the characters where they go from playboy mentality to wanting to settle down because they see it from the relationships of the previous characters. Boone uses his celebrity for the better by volunteering a ton of his time at the local children’s hospital. While he’s not supposed to have favorites, he finds that in one of the patients named Aiden, and when he meets Aiden’s sister by chance, it changes everything for him. Lilly has always held the family together, first after the death of her mother and then throughout her brother’s diagnosis. She holds together the family business, really just surviving instead of thriving in life. I absolutely loved this book, these characters had me go through a full range of emotions, and the ending absolutely truly gutted me, and I found myself sobbing, but I love that Lilly had Boone to help her navigate and recover while giving her the ability to have a real shot at life. I can’t wait to see if we get any more from these characters and this series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I carried the characters, the plot, the heart of this book with me, and it wove into way into my conscious, whispering me to return when I had life responsibilities. The characters were relatable and human. I am in awe and can’t get over how each member (book) of this extended hockey world lives and breathes independently and yet with subtle connections to previous storylines. Boone is the best of this style books, twisted by the sweet sorrow of real life. I keep thinking “she can’t top this one”, and then there is Boone’s story.

This is the best book Sawyer Bennett has written. It incorporates the strength of the characters, their vulnerabilities as they learn about courage from one little boy, and the grace with which they honor his life.

I’m not sure that I have enough words to describe the raw emotion Boone and Lilly’s story evokes. I needed that box of tissues by my side and I ugly cried. What else can you do when faced with a kid fighting cancer. I was wondering how it would all play out and if my tears would dry up for a happily ever after. No spoilers in that aspect, though. You’ll have to read and cry (because you’re not human if you don’t) to find out if Boone and Lilly make it through these tough times. I’d give this 10 stars, if I could.

I just don’t like this one. Very juvenile writing. I’m 25% through and already skimming. Wouldn’t even give it one star. Save your money
