Love this story. It keeps getting better & better with each book.

What started out as an adventure ends in pure fantasy. It was not hard to get interested in this five book trilogy. The plot showed promise and the characters were intriguing. The prequel Rise of the Red Shadow was a masterful exercise in character development and spurred me on to further reading. Once Myranda reaches Entwell things begin to change. Characters become more numerous and more two dimensional including the hero, Deacon. From here on the books become more like a verbal Dungeons & Dragons game. Once magic becomes the major character the need for a compelling plot moves into the background. Character motivation becomes nothing but an afterthought. Every action is propelled by "the cause" and the action becomes nothing but a magical arms race. You get imprisoned and a spell saves the day. Torture and maiming are not a problem. You're good as new in minutes. Lost in a snowstorm. Magic staff to the rescue. Surviving an atomic blast, there's an app for that. Saving the world is already written in so we won't worry about that. I'm happy to say that the explicit graphic violence so popular in many novels is missing from this book but so is most of the interpersonal passion. Myranda was always Lisa Simpson to Deacon's Milhous and that seems to be the end of it, in fact as they ride off into the sunset there is only the evidence of one sentence in the book to indicate that they may not be virgins. When I started this series I was hoping for an engaging novel but about half way through it became evident that it was a fairy tale.

Loved all three books!

Over all a wonderful read, the entire series was very enjoyable. Adding a few longer breaks in between events would help to break the feeling of constant failure of the characters.

This has been a great series I'm sad to see it end! Can't wait to see more from this author.

absolutely amazing trilogy. i could not put this book down, nor did i ever want it to end. the visuals it produced in my mind while reading were far better than any movie i've ever watched. thank you so much to the author for giving us this story. you will not be disappointed at all with this one!

I just finished reading the last book and something is messed up with it the story doesn't end it just stops mid- sentence. I want the rest!

I am an avid science fiction book reader. This story was enthralling, captivating, well thought out and hard to put down. I loved it!
