Description

A Grown Up Kind of Pretty is a powerful saga of three generations of women, plagued by hardships and torn by a devastating secret, yet inextricably joined by the bonds of family.

Fifteen-year-old Mosey Slocumb -- spirited, sassy, and on the cusp of womanhood -- is shaken when a small grave is unearthed in the backyard, and determined to figure out why it's there. Liza, her stroke-ravaged mother, is haunted by choices she made as a teenager. But it is Jenny, Mosey's strong and big-hearted grandmother, whose maternal love braids together the strands of the women's shared past -- and who will stop at nothing to defend their future.

I have been binge reading 3 of Joshilyn Jackson’s books - Gods in Alabama, Between, Georgia and now A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty. One is better than the next one. I love her characters - they are real and down to earth and make me laugh out loud sometimes. I will read anything this author writes. Read her! You won’t be disappointed. 👍

This was my first book by this author but now I'm looking forward to reading more. It took a full chapter and a half to understand the dialect (and I'm from the South, so this shouldn't be that far a stretch for me) but once I did I really got into this book. The storyline and characters are compelling and I found it to be a complete page turner. In fact, I read the last half in one day because I couldn't put it down. Excited to read Jackson's other novels now!

What a funny, heartbreaking, thrilling love story about what ties us to other people. Love, hatred, fear, secrets... They are all here. This is the kind of book I wish I could read for the first time every week.
