From the acclaimed author of Gone Girl, “a riveting tale of true horror by a writer who has all the gifts to pull it off” (Chicago Tribune)

“Sensuous and chilling . . . a propulsive and twisty mystery.”—Entertainment Weekly

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.” She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben.

Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.

There’s a weird part with a guy in high school and a fifth grade girl and honestly nothing really happened but it was weird enough that I just didn’t feel comfortable finishing the book.

Just as you think you’ve got the whole plot figured out there’s a new twist that throws everything off. I love how it can jump from character and time setting throughout the chapters but never get confused by that. Overall great book!

I found this book to be slow at first, but once the author gets warmed up, this book is far from that. Flynn has this amazing ability to piece together small details and turn them into something huge. An absolute must read for mystery lovers.

Super easily digestible. Not as page-turning of a read as Flynn’s other material but still gripping. Heroines across Flynn’s novels definitely feel like just slightly different versions of each other. Sadly, twist is predictable. Not the shook moment I wanted but still nice. Overall a great read for a domestic flight, but not something I would be into enough to come back to over a longer period of time.

Great book! Sad story but kept my attention. Didn’t want to put it down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading. Flynn is a great story teller!
  • Complex story

This was a compelling story. Initially, I was bored only because I didn’t understand the characters and I assumed that it was going to be a predictable ending. However, as the story progressed, I really felt gravitated towards finding out “who done it”. There were so many elements that left me entertained and there were some that I was confused about. Relevancy is key in these mystery novels and I think Gillian does it well, you just have to be patient.

I enjoyed this book mostly, except had to skip over certain parts that were too disturbing. Over all great book.

I enjoyed the book for the most part and was very into the whodunnit of it all but the ending was a bit odd for me. I don’t know who I wanted the bad guy to be but who it ultimately was was a little out of left field.
  • Suspense-filled

The story kept my attention as the pieces of the puzzle fell together. An impeccable read.
