One of the best-selling female rock stars of all time, the incomparable Pat Benatar writes about her life, rock ’n’ roll, and how her generation changed music forever in Between a Heart and a Rock Place. The first solo female rocker ever to appear on MTV, Benatar writes with the same edge and attitude that was a hallmark of her music—from “Heartbreaker” to “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.” The winner of four consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock performance, Pat Benatar tells a fascinating, no-holds-barred story of what it was really like to be a woman in the mostly male world of hard rock in the ’80s.

  • Fantastic read

I truly enjoyed this book. Being a fan of her music, I thought this would be entertaining and it exceeded my expectations! And I realized I didn't know much about Pat so it was enlightening and just fun, feisty and rockin! Loved learning how she as a female helped open doors for so many female artists. Even if you only know a couple of her songs-you would enjoy the book!
  • Not bad

Good for the fans. Always wondered why her career faded before its time. This book explains it. Robin Leach has the best line in the book. She's too quick to emphasis how simple she is which leaves you curiously suspect of her and makes her one dimensional. Something she was called by her critics during her heyday. Ultimately, an entertaining read from a cultural icon who is humble to a fault.

Great read! So many memories in the music. Was great to get the background to writing their songs and building such a great career. Love the strength and wisdom that Pat conveys. Amazing what she had to put up with behind the scenes early in her career. The wounds are deep but her love for her family prevails. Such a love and respect for her husband Neil, and giving him the credit he deserves. Thank u so much for the music and for sharing your story in this wonderful book.
  • Annoying

Each chapter could have been shortened. Painfully long and made me less of a fan.

Just about all I read are biographies on musicians and this one stands out as a great read that someone who grew up in the 80's who watched MTV religiously when it first started and couldn't wait for the Promises in the Dark video to come on again so I could hear a kickass song played buy a kickass band led by THE singer who no one could touch. That alone made me need to be a guitarist drooling over the solo to PitD and waiting for Neil to hit that delay on the last note. I STILL get choked up when I hear the riffs, solos and harmony vocals they put out. Amazing talents. The story makes you realize that hard work, sticking to your guns and pursuing your dream pays off. Skip over the bios that don't tell the true story of work hard, entertain, reap the rewards. There's plenty of them. I'll read this one again. Good stuff... b.

I love Pat Benatar. I'm only 11 and know every word to every song. This book was great. Great job, Mrs. Giraldo (Pat). I love you. Hope I get to meet you again. I got to meet you at the House of Blues in Cleveland in 2011
  • what a ride

I thought this book was great! I have always been a fan ! It totally brought me back to AOR radio and listening to "Heartbreaker" and bought the album, I was 13 and my Mom and Dad loved it too! What? Music that we all agreed on? We were so excited to see them on Don Kirshner's rock concert. No MTV back then, and then when they were on MTV?! ooh ooh! So happy:) Pat and Spydy's music ended up being the soundtrack of my life, with every album brings me a special memory and Get Nervous got me through college thank goodness! Reading about the sleazy record execs back then had me remember why Heart wrote "Barracuda". Pat reminded me if you follow your passion, trust your instincts and with perseverance you can achieve anything.
