Description

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone, second-chance story of forbidden love…

It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace.
He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had.
Fast forward a decade.
We were all in our twenties now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died.
It was just the three of us—an odd family dynamic.
Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever.
But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.
I was pretty much hot and bothered twenty-four-seven.
And he was torn.
The signs were subtle, at first. Like on movie night, I’d casually rest my leg against his, and he wouldn’t exactly shift away.
Still, I assumed he would never…go there.
Nathan would kill us.
The knowledge of that wasn’t enough to stop the inevitable, though.
Eventually our slow burn exploded.
But more than the physical attraction, we’d developed a strong connection.
We just couldn’t get caught, right?
That sounded simple.
Until it wasn’t.
This is a story of forbidden love, broken trust, and an unexpected second chance.

I read romance for the emotional ups and downs, the drama, and the hut scenes ;). This book explored a lot of the psychology behind why the characters were making the decisions they were, and that was novel. But after a while it just felt boring. There were a lot of things that could’ve been cut out to make the piecing of the book more engaging. I will give the author all the credit for truly keeping it a surprise how the two characters would end up together.

The story was good, but too much sex talk. I do enjoy most of your books. Just not my favorite.

Wow!! This book reeled me in from the start!! What an opening!! I couldn’t put it down!! I had to immediately find out what the drama was between Farrah and Jace. It takes us back in time to when Farrah has a crush on Jace who is her older brother, Nathan’s best friend. Jace is 6 years older than Farrah so he always thought that her crush on him was cute. Fast forward a decade after a number of life changing events, Jace is back in town living with Nathan and Farrah to help them make ends meet. Jace quickly realizes Farrah is very much a woman now and the sparks are flying high! He knows he can’t let it go anywhere though because of Nathan. Eventually though the temptation is too strong!! What would it hurt? They just have to play it safe and not get caught! Yeah, right! Easier said than done! This book was such an emotional ride!! So get ready for the roller coaster!! I loved every minute of it!! Such a sweet ending!! 5+ stars for me!!❤️

The Crush is a very emotional forbidden romance. It started as a teen crush, but Farrah has never stopped loving older brother Nathan’s best friend Jace. “... you don’t see me as mature, because when you left for college, I was twelve. That’s the person you remember.” I sighed. “I’m not twelve anymore.” When Jace moved back into town and into the house with Nathan and Farrah their feelings boil over and get out of hand. This book is a moving rollercoaster ride of emotional ups and downs, with twists and turns. It is all emotion, passion and swoon that tugged at my heartstrings and kept me invested in the story. -4 Stars-

From start to finish, I had a hard time putting this book down. It took me maybe 10 hours (interrupted) to read the entire book in a 24 hour period. The story of Farrah and Jace is just too sweet. Requited forbidden love, who wouldn’t be submerged in the story. Absolutely loved it.

I loved Farrah and Jace’s angsty relationship. Farrah is the younger sister of Jace’s best friend. The three have a traumatic experience that will bond them together forever. However, Farrah’s brother thinks he knows the true Jace and wants better for his sister. Feelings and emotions run high, and they are forced to discover their deepest fears and anxieties. This is a remarkable tale of overcoming obstacles and learning what family really is. Perfect second chance love story!
