Treasure Hunt

By Peg1951
George Hawkins is a master thief. His target is the gold and jeweled crown of Baldwin I, a crusader ruler of Constantinople. The crown is part of an exhibition curated by Jane Scott, daughter of an archaeologist and Eastern antiquities expert. After viewing the crown’s exhibit twice, and with his plan in place, George makes his move. Jane, although taken with George, catches and shoots him before he gets his hands on the prize. This is where the story starts. The real story is a treasure hunt. Jane has researched clues to find a treasure given to Charles I’s mistress for safekeeping. When he recovers, he agrees to assist Jane in deciphering the clues and finding the treasure.
This story is a fun mystery and adventure, and a love story with sizzle. Jane is brilliant, determined, stubborn, and by English standards quite worldly. She lost her family in a shipwreck and is alone. George, one of the Rogues of the Road. He is a master thief and the son of a judge (ironic, right?). He has reached a point where he would like to leave his criminal life behind, but he needs to take care of some obligations first. George and Jane work very well together (in a knock-heads kind of way). If they succeed in their quest, their futures are bright, or maybe a future together. An engaging story with interesting characters. I enjoyed and recommend it.
