Description

A rich tapestry of wit, grit, and humor…

Twenty-four-year old Phoebe Hawley is on a quest to find her family a home. On the road with two siblings, twelve-year-old Maydean and five-year-old Willie-Boy, Phoebe is out of money, out of gas and out of patience. The only things she owns in abundance are backbone and pride—neither of which she can trade for food or gas.

A collision with Gage Morgan puts Phoebe’s mission in even worse jeopardy—until Phoebe discovers Gage owns the perfect place for her clan. However, she soon discovers that Gage is the unlikeliest man in the universe to offer a helping hand.

Phoebe wields all the country smarts she owns to worm her way into Gage’s heart, but nothing works. With time running against her family, she plies one last inducement—her scarce feminine wiles.

Interesting tale with a twist! She backs out of a parking space and hits the truck behind her. He needs help at his inn so she works off her bill that way. Then sparks start to fly!

This is the second book I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it ! This story had everything, especially humor. I so admired Phoebe’s loyalty to family, and her “do what you have to do” attitude. What a match she and Gage made. No foul language or explicit sex scenes, but I promise you won’t be disappointed. Going back for more books by this author.

The books starts slow with need to get into the lyrical rhythm of the rural southern use of language. II struggled with Phoebe - focus on family and willingness to shelter and provide at all cost. Gage appears as a physically large over burden man with the need to find a connection and be loved. Interesting struggles to be better than your past and still retain the legacy of family. The reader will grow to love the characters the simplicity of accepting and honoring a good days work and respecting old fashion values. This author is new to me and look forward to reading other books.

Loved this book. Took me back to my teenage years when I’d curl up with a soft cover Harlequin Romance! Such a great writer, looking forward to reading more of her work.

First of all I loved the language of this book! The down home style of easyspeak rose and fell like music playing to my spirit as I read this delightful book. The natural way of family looking after family members reminded me of a way of life we are losing in society today. The characters are so believable I can easily picture them and relate to them. I felt the emotions of the written word and at times I could even smell the salt laden air of the salty marsh.
