Bill Griffeth, longtime genealogy buff, takes a DNA test that has an unexpected outcome: "If the results were correct, it meant that the family tree I had spent years documenting was not my own." Bill undertakes a quest to solve the mystery of his origins, which shakes his sense of identity. This story brought me to tears several times and helped me in my own healing process. In June of 2018, also through results of a DNA test, I learned that the man on my birth certificate, who I grew up with, who I believed to be my father for 67 years, and at whose deathbed I stood with my sister, both of us sobbing, was not my biological father. I have been on a quest to find out who I really am, and like Bill, I’ve always been interested in genealogy. He has inspired me to document my own story, if only to share the truth with my descendants. While similar to Bill’s in several ways, it is of course different in many others. I love the title of this book, and I wish I could use it for mine. I’m just going to start writing and maybe a title will come to me.
