book vs. movie

the movie is such a poor representation of how amazing this book is. if you haven’t seen the movie i hope you choose not to and just read this story and fall in love with the characters and not the actors who didn’t represent the characters well in my opinion. but this book made my heart explode the first time i read it. finally a gay love story that just has a happy ending and not some tragic breakup or whatever crisis always seems to be written. it’s the prince and prince story i’ve always dreamed of.

As a gay man who has always struggled with identity and always felt the need to conform to norms because it was the only way I knew. This was the book I needed. A little bit of real politics and the sweetest love story. In my opinion this is a masterpiece! I’m actually sad I finished it so quick.

10/10 definitely recommend! Watched the movie first unfortunately but even with prior knowledge this paints such a cute story. Better than the movie by far! My new favorite book ❤️❤️

I really didn’t want to read this and I’m so glad I did. Definitely shed some tears, especially at the end. I wasn’t ready for the ending and the vivid description of Austin, TX at night. Made me think about my time in the city and the experiences I have had with dating here. I thought the writing was great and very engaging and wasn’t too over the top with the lovey-dovey language. 10/10 would recommend.

I did enjoyed this book….but oh my god….it peaked then stayed stagnant for so long. I got so bored with it towards the middle but I made it through. Do I regret reading this? No. Will I read it again? Probably not

one of the best books i’ve ever read, casey mcquiston is one of my favorite authors ever and she does a great job introducing and making you fall in love with the characters in her books. would recommend reading this as well as her other novel “the last stop”.
Cheesy good and romantic

This books biggest criticism i hear is definitely how dramatic and exaggerated and inaccurate this plot is to which I remind (or inform) readers that this was originally fan fiction for the movie Social Network… so like take it easy. I think it’s also important to remind reader that it’s ok to have a sort of unrealistic crazy dramatic story. the message is clear, the characters are well written so why not be cute and fluffy and funny about it? I think this book is a total rom com (the new movie only proves this more) and it’s a great slightly steamy fun read.
(i think it’s also an important style of writing and tone of book for queer audiences who are constantly either underrepresented or shown in only tragic negative ways. queer people deserve just as much relatively simple cute fluffy romance stories as straight people. Not all of us are great big tragedy’s
