Any story by Katee Robert is guaranteed to bring heat and heart and Prom Queen was no exception. This second chance love story was wrapped up in redemption and forgiveness and quickly drew me in.
I really liked Jessica. She has definitely had a rough childhood, but she knows now that it doesn’t entirely excuse her mean girl behavior in high school. She’s been trying to be a better person and has found a wonderful support system in her two best friends out on the west coast. Coming home for her high school reunion isn’t something she wants to do, but she knows if she wants to move forward with her life she needs to head home and not just seek forgiveness from others, but also seek forgiveness from herself.
Jake was faced with not only an injury that took away any hope at a professional football career, but also with losing the one person he thought would be by his side while he recovered. He’s never forgiven Jessica for leaving him or truly gotten over her, so when he sees a chance to get close to her again and, yeah, maybe also get a little bit of revenge, he totally takes it. Of course he doesn’t count on his heart getting in the way of his plans.
Jake and Jessica have a lot of issues to work out, but their attraction to one another certainly isn’t one of them! These two couldn’t be near each other without the sparks going off, but unfortunately a quick roll in the hay is not going to erase the pain and heartbreak of the past.
All in all, this was a fun read that delivered everything I love in a Katee Robert book – plenty of heat and lots of heart. It did seem a bit rushed at the end and I would have liked to have had just a little bit more of what happens next (one of the drawbacks of a novella!), but overall this book delivered a great story that has me looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
