Description

Bennett Morse devotes his time to chasing two things: an NHL career and women. He’s the easygoing member of his three-man line on the Fenway Flyers, content to play the game he loves and soak up the female attention it brings – as long as it’s from a different woman each time. He learned the hard way that choosing only one leads to heartache.

Newly single attorney Charlotte Holloway finds just what she needs in Bennett – a sweet, sexy man to ease the burn of her recent breakup. One night is all she wants from the left winger who seems to have all the right moves. Soon circumstance draws her back to Bennett, and the sparks between them become a fiery blaze. But with the stakes high, will they risk it all and put their hearts on the line?

4 1/2 of 5 Stars Brenda Rothert scores with Bennett the second book in the On the Line Series. Twenty-six-year-old Fenway Flyers left winger Bennett Morse has a one-night-stand with attorney Charlotte Holloway. However, one night will not be enough. Bennett is full of unexpected twists. This contemporary sports romance takes place in Fenway, Indiana. It is suitable for new adult and adult audiences. Brenda Rothert does a great job with her character development. I like Bennett. He is sweet, loyal, caring, and smart. He has some fears from a previous relationship that affect him. I appreciated that Bennett is from Orland Park, Illinois. I am from Chicago. We have family in Orland Park and are often there for the holidays, so it was cool that Bennett spent Christmas in Orland. He has a cool family. Charlotte is a strong heroine. She doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s relationship footsteps. She doesn’t realize that she is nothing like her mother in that respect. She and Bennett have great chemistry. The plot is well done. The conflict with Bennett’s roommate, Liam, was interesting. This story has multiple examples of what can happen with communication breakdowns. I love the scene with the peanut clusters. Bennett is a good man looking out for Charlotte. This is the first book that I have read by Brenda Rothert. I enjoyed her writing style. I will definitely read more books by her in the future and have already picked up some of her previous work. Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

I fell in love with Brenda Rothert's writing when I read her first hockey series Fire on Ice, and it was nice to get back to that with Bennett. While it has been a while between the release of book 1, Killian, I was able to pick right back up with these characters like it had been no time at all. I absolutely LOVED Bennett! He is definitely what you want in a swoon worthy book boyfriend. Hot, athletic, and willing to do whatever it takes to be with the one loves, even if it means giving up his dream. Charlotte is hard working, career driven, and trying her best to not be her mother. I loved the interactions between Bennett and Charlotte and I loved that through the course of the book you see the effects they had on one another.

There are only a few books you read that make you become enamored, not only with the storyline but also with the characters. Bennett is one of those books. Bennett is a stand up guy, a loyal friend, a talented hockey player just waiting for his turn to move to the NHL in order to have a better life. He meets Charlotte on a night when she needs someone to listen, on a night when she decides a one time affair with the stranger sitting next to her at the bar is exactly what she needs to exorcise the demon known as her ex-boyfriend. As hot as that night was and as much as Charlotte tried to forget the handsome stranger, some of our acts bring consequences that won't be easy to erased any time soon. Although Bennett had his affairs in the past, when it comes time to take responsibility and be the man Charlotte needs, he's there one hundred percent. I just adored how loving and patient he was with her. Charlotte may seem to some as extra cautious throughout her relationship with Bennett, but sometimes our backgrounds influence greatly the people we become, and this was definitely her case. With two great main characters and an array of fantastic secondary ones, Rothert has crafted a well written, realistic story that will have you wishing this story never ends. The author also proves that you don't need a demanding alpha male to have a beautiful story full of passion, humor, family loyalty, and sacrifices for the ones you love.

When Bennett Morse and Charlotte Holloway meet by chance and decide to spend the night together, neither one is prepared for the outcome of their actions, or that their encounter would lead to anything more. But, when Fate, kismet, the Universe, call it what you will, steps in, the two find out quickly that sometimes things, and people, are not what they seem, and that life as they know it is about to be very different. I have been a fan of Brenda for a very long time, and am never disappointed by the stories and characters that she creates. BENNETT, the second book in Brenda's On the Line series, is no exception. In Bennett, Brenda has written a man that is not the usual player. Yes, he's had his share of action, but his heart is in the game, and in getting called up to the professional team. When he meets Charlotte, who has recently broken up with her boyfriend, he is smitten. Everything about her appeals to him, and he is more than ready to see where things go. But Charlotte, raised by a mother who depended on men for her self-worth, isn't about to jump right into another relationship. Strong and capable, she's more than able to take care of herself, and isn't afraid to let Bennett know. What really makes this book so special is the way that Brenda continually takes her characters out of their comfort zones and allows them to rise to heights that they didn't know they could attain. Bennett is so much more than just a hot hockey player, and is willing to overcome his personal demons to show Charlotte just how much she means to him, and what he's willing to give up to be with her. And, Charlotte, afraid in her own way to let Bennett in, finds in him a safe place, where she can let someone else help her carry the load. BENNETT is a wonderful addition to the On the Line series, and the story, the heart, the wonderful way that the main characters mesh, along with the supporting characters and their stories, combine to earn this read an easy 4.5 stars. And, having gotten to know Liam just a little bit in this book, I can't wait for his story in the near future.
