A bit of a convoluted read with a variety of characters. The protagonist is a cop-turned-clergyman at a prison. His better angels fight with his lesser intentions as he navigates the system to catch a killer and sort out a new romance. I did not develop much empathy for the hero and was put off by descriptions of the prison system. Others may find this a better read than I did and I encourage them to give this book a read.

Spell binding as everything unravels in a very orderly way in the plot. Easy reading, but not lacking in detail and brings readers mental images front and foremost to their minds while reading without even being aware of being carried along in reading. Flows well as things and story events unravel to reveal the surprise villain at the end. Grips and holds reader attention from the first chapter all the way to the end. Mr. Lister is able to get the reader to suspend their belief system from the very beginning and takes reader to the level of feeling like they were there as the real world fades away for the reader and all that is there for the reader ...is the "story" they are mentally living word by word. Very good writing by one who is obviously now a well developed author with his writing. Mr. Lister will for sure be listed among the giants of mysteries.

I couldn't put it down. I will read more. Kept me guessing. I loved the Religious over tones. Quoting from the bible was great. We need more of that. Thank you.

Compelling, almost impossible to put down. Very well-written. Gave a plausible perspective of life inside a prison.

So very engaging! The flow of the story is so smooth and brings the plot to life to the reader. I love to guess "who and why" in a thriller but this was not possible in this story. The ending made me flustered because I did not see who the killer(s) was, even though the clues were right in front of me eyes the whole time. That is what's makes a great mystery thriller. "Cudos" to the author.

Man I wish I had discovered Michael Lister sooner! What a great, great writer! I've quickly fallen in love with all his books, but the John Jordan mysteries are my favorite. POWER IN THE BLOOD is a wonderful introduction to this unique detective and extraordinary man. John is such a good guy, works so hard to do the right thing. I just love him. I was late coming to the party, but I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere. Sign me up for the full ride.
